Glossary

The words, defined.

Terms you will meet in grid trading and in Hydra Vision, in plain language.

Grid
A series of positions on one side of the market, opened at set distances (steps) as the price moves against the first one. A traditional grid closes them all together when the price returns to their average price.
Anchor
The first position of a grid. The levels that follow are placed relative to it.
Step
The distance between one grid level and the next. Hydra Vision measures it in units suited to each asset class, and can keep it fixed or let it change as the grid deepens (see Grid Strategy).
Setfile
A MetaTrader 5 file (.set) that holds an Expert Advisor's input settings. Hydra Vision's Setfile Builder creates them online, keeps every version, and names each one by its Strategy Print and Tuning Print.
Grid Strategy
How the EA decides where to place the next grid position.
  • Fixed: every step, by distance. Simplest to reason about; SmartEntry's re-entry logic is not used.
  • Dynamic: each entry waits for a SmartEntry signal. Most selective, and needs the SmartEntry settings to be set up coherently.
  • Step Increase: like Fixed, but each step is further than the last.
  • Step Decrease: like Fixed, but each step is closer than the last.
PCL (Profit Closes Loss)
Hydra Vision's engine for how a grid closes. It pairs a position in profit with one in loss and closes both when the market reaches their average price, including all costs and a small profit target. The grid gets smaller (compaction) and risk is reduced without waiting for one exit for every position. Several PCL strategies decide which positions are paired and when.
Grid compaction
Reducing the overall size of a grid, measured as the price distance from its highest position to its lowest. It is what PCL does by default.
SmartEntry
Hydra Vision's engine for when the next position opens. It shares PCL's view of risk, strategy and the market, and can wait after the price crosses a level instead of adding a position at once.
Re-entry confirmation
How much agreement SmartEntry asks for before adding a position: how many of its three re-entry signals must fire, and within how many bars. It is set per risk zone (Green, Yellow and Red), and the riskier the zone, the more agreement it asks for. The presets are Lenient (1 signal within 40, 20 and 10 bars), Balanced (1 signal within 20 bars in Green and 10 in Yellow; 2 within 5 in Red) and Strict (2 signals within 10 bars in Green and 5 in Yellow; 3 within 5 in Red).
GridSense
Hydra Vision's engine for why. Every decision PCL and SmartEntry make goes to GridSense with its reason; it processes it and hands it on to the backtest report that replaces MetaTrader's, to live analytics, and back into the engines.
Grid Density
How compact a grid is: open positions ÷ (grid span ÷ minimum step). For example, 4 open positions in a 110-pip grid with a 20-pip minimum step gives 4 ÷ (110 ÷ 20) = 73%. It is one reading behind grid health, re-entry gating and de-risking.
Strategy Print
A fingerprint (shown as SP-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx) of the settings that decide what a strategy does, such as the grid type, volume strategy, entry rules and sessions. Change one and it is a different strategy.
Tuning Print
A fingerprint (TP-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx) of the settings that decide how hard a strategy works, such as step sizes, volumes, targets and risk stops. Two setfiles with the same Strategy Print and Tuning Print are the same configuration, whatever they are called.
Hydra Fingerprint
A public page for a published configuration: its two prints, the settings its owner chooses to disclose, and whether it runs on a verified live account. Settings outside the fingerprint are never disclosed. An owner can also publish a live account: that page shows its Configuration Timeline and links to the owner's independent Myfxbook or FXBlue record.
Configuration Timeline
Every configuration a chart ran, and when. Nothing is removed, so a published record shows exactly what produced it.
Hydra Agent
A program that runs beside MetaTrader on each of your VPSs. It keeps Live Analytics current, shows every VPS, terminal and chart in one place, fetches logs when you ask, and carries your commands to the EA. It never places, changes or closes a trade itself.
Wind down
A command sent through Hydra Agent: open grids run to completion, then the chart suspends. Nothing new opens.
Grid Science
Hydra Vision's method: empirical evidence, testable hypotheses and reproducible experiments in place of guesswork. Its rule: no position is opened without purpose. The rule and five principles.
