Compare

Hydra Vision vs a traditional grid EA.

Both are grid Expert Advisors: they open a series of positions as the price moves against the first one. The difference is in how those positions are opened, closed and recorded. This page compares the mechanisms, not the results.

What this page does not say. It does not claim that Hydra Vision makes more money, loses less or carries less risk than any other EA. Results depend on the configuration, the asset, the broker and the market. Any grid can build up positions against a strong move, with deep drawdown and margin tied up. Trading involves risk, and you can lose money.

The differences at a glance

"Traditional grid EA" here means the common design: positions at fixed steps, often with growing volume, all closed together at one average price. Individual products vary.

Traditional grid EAHydra Vision
Exit logicEvery position waits for one calculated average price, then all close together. The alternative is a stop or maximum loss.PCL can close a position in profit together with one in loss while the grid runs. Whole-grid averaging is still available as one engine, and some strategies hand remaining positions to a trailing stop.
Risk reductionTied to the exit: risk only falls when the whole grid closes, or when a stop is hit.Separate from the exit: each PCL close removes a losing position and makes the grid smaller. De-risking rules can switch PCL to the highest-risk positions.
Entry timingA new position opens each time the price crosses the next step, because the rules require it.Fixed step patterns are available. With Dynamic grids, SmartEntry waits for re-entry signals and asks for more of them as the grid deepens. Anchor vetoes can refuse to start a new grid.
VolumeOften grows with each step (for example doubling) to pull the single exit closer. The volume strategy is a setting you choose. Because PCL reduces risk without relying on one averaged exit, the design does not need volume to grow aggressively.
RecordingMetaTrader's report lists deals. It cannot show which rule closed a position or why.GridSense records each engine decision with its reason, for the backtest report, Live Analytics and the engines themselves.
Configuration identitySetfiles are identified by their file names.Every saved version has a Strategy Print and a Tuning Print, so identical configurations can be recognised whatever they are called.

Exit logic and risk reduction

In a traditional grid, the single average price does two jobs at once. It is the only way out, and it is the only point at which risk comes down. Until the price returns there, every position stays open, and each new position adds to what is waiting.

Hydra Vision separates those jobs. PCL pairs a position in profit with one in loss and closes both when the market reaches their combined average price, including costs and a small profit target. A grid can therefore shrink while it is still open. Which positions are paired, and what happens to the ones that remain, depends on the PCL strategy you choose. Whole-grid averaging still exists in Hydra Vision; it is one engine among several rather than the only exit.

Entry timing

A traditional grid adds a position each time the price crosses the next step. In a fast one-way move, positions keep opening because the rule says so, not because the moment suits the grid.

Hydra Vision can also run fixed steps, and some strategies do. With a Dynamic grid, SmartEntry decides: once the price has travelled the minimum distance, it waits for signs that the price is turning, and the deeper the grid, the more evidence it asks for. For new grids, optional vetoes can refuse to start in conditions they are designed to avoid. The trade-off is explicit: fewer positions, more waiting.

Volume

Many traditional grids multiply volume at each step, because larger positions near the current price pull the averaged exit closer. That also concentrates risk in the deepest positions. In Hydra Vision the volume strategy is a setting like any other. Because risk can come down through PCL closes, the design does not depend on volume growth to make the grid closable. How much volume to use is your decision; we do not advise on volume.

Transparency and recording

MetaTrader sees deals. It cannot tell which positions formed one grid, which engine closed them or why an entry was delayed. Hydra Vision's GridSense records every decision with its reason. That record feeds the backtest report, Live Analytics and Replay. The Configuration Timeline records which configuration each live chart ran and when, and Hydra Fingerprints lets you publish a configuration so others can check exactly what it is.

Tooling

A traditional grid EA is usually configured in MetaTrader's inputs list and judged by the Strategy Tester report. Hydra Vision comes with a platform built around the EA, from configuring and testing to watching live accounts. The overview lists every tool, and pricing shows which plan includes each one.
